AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Experts have blamed the Texas drought for up to $30 million in damage to an unopened stretch of tollway in the Austin area.

The Austin American-Statesman reported Monday that the 2011 drought caused asphalt cracks in some parts of unfinished Texas 130. The area involves about 41 miles between Mustang Ridge and Seguin.

The private consortium building the road, in association with the Texas Department of Transportation, has been repaving since spring.

Chris Lippincott with the State Highway 130 Concession Co. says the repaired tollway should open prior to the November lease contract deadline. Lippincott says the consortium, led by Spanish toll road company Cintra and a subsidiary of San Antonio-based Zachry Construction Corp., is paying for the repair costs.

JimmyCrackCorn - you must not live in the 10 mile swath they wanted to take for the toll roads and high speed rail in San Antonio for I35. You know d**n good and well we wouldn't get squat from the city for our home that is paid for. Not that I support the drill baby drill but you have to take "emminent domain" into consideration too.

I blame stupid city managers who think drill baby drill will keep us flush with cheap oil for another 20-40 years, the time it takes to make investments to lite and overhead ands high speed rail. But hey, Texans are easily fooled by things like facts and science.
