NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas - A mom was arrested Saturday after allegedly leaving her twin toddlers home alone while she went shopping. 36-year-old Yanelly Jimenez told officers the 15-month-old boys were sleeping before she left, police said.
An anonymous tip lead officers to her apartment at about 4 p.m. An officer spotted one child moving around in a crib inside, but no one came to the door. After 37 minutes of trying to reach the residents, apartment Langtry Village Apartments management let officers in, where they found the two boys in separate cribs, Capt. John McDonald said.
"They (the boys) were sweating. The house was pretty warm. One of the children had an empty bottle with him," Capt. McDonald said.
He said the twins had been alone for about an hour. Jimenez arrived home while police were still there. According to police, Jimenez had taken her 2-year-old and 5-year-old shopping with her, but not the two youngest because she said they were asleep.
Jimenez is charged with two counts of abandoning a child with intent to return. Capt. McDonald said the boys were returned to their father, who lives at the apartment and Child Protective Services discussed a family safety plan with the family.
