SAN ANTONIO -  A 12-year-old boy was arrested for taking a handgun to Rayburn Middle School on the far West Side.

Northside Independent School District officials said the incident happened around 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

A student went to the front office and told an administrator that the boy was showing off a gun.

NISD police tracked down the student and arrested him.

The boy is charged with possession of a firearm on school property.

The charge carries mandatory expulsion and assignment to the Juvenile Justice Academy, a school run by Bexar County for expelled students.

darkangel, there is no law against "bullying" itself. There ARE laws against threats, theft, and assault, which are frequent elements of bullying, but there needs to be a witness or some kind of evidence in order to file these charges against the bully. However, if the bully is only making fun of another student or pestering them, and no law is violated, then school discipline needs to be excercised. If the "lectures" aren't working, let them know and see if they can ratchet it up a notch.

I doubt he found it on the side of the road. Could he be a bully victim? Could he have been sick of being tortured and teased? It is a possibility. My own child gets teased and bullied on a regular basis. I called to report it and the vice principal started talking crap about my son to me. Not to mention she is ugly to him. She didn't correct the issue, she turned it around on him. Incident after incident...I asked the school secretary what they do about bullying and she stated , " well we lecture the children" Wow seriously. Isn't bullying against the law? What is being done there? NOTHING. Notifying the school district NOTHING I believe most fights, threats, etc start with cruel treatment by other kids. Maybe that kid was going to defend himself or was scared. I am sure its ok with administration though because THEY GAVE THE OTHER KIDS A LECTURE.
