SAN ANTONIO - Friends and family of six year old Brandon Abrams are gathering Friday night for a memorial to remember the boy. He was killed yesterday while riding his bike on a sidewalk near his home along Autumn Sunrise.
Seventeen year old Luis Landin lost control of his truck, jumped a curb and hit the boy.  Police suspect he was drunk and distracted by his dropped cell phone.  Landin is now charged with intoxication manslaughter in the case.
Brandon's father Troy tearfully demanded something be done to slow down speeding drivers on the street.
"There's no reason why a certain number of cars should have to come down here when only one came down here and took him from us," he cried.
News 4 found out speed humps were not installed in the neighborhood about five years ago because the street did not meet the traffic volume criteria, according to District 7 Councilman Cris Medina.  Last year, a speed hump study packet was given to someone in that neighborhood, but it was never returned to the city, so no study was done.
Medina said the city is now looking at "all options" to increase safety on Autumn Sunrise and his office is working with public works and the police to possibly increase patrols. Medina said the traffic study will include looking at increased signage, adding stop signs and possibly speed humps.
Speed humps cost $26,000 to install and the city has a limited budget, his spokesperson said.
The traffic study could take between three to six weeks.

Such a sad situation, but would speed bumps have helped here? This allegedly drunk teen idiot went up on the sidewalk and hit the poor child. I feel so bad for the family for their loss, but the real blame does lie on the jerk who took their son. :(
