SAN ANTONIO -- Mechanics are issuing a warning to anyone who is considering buying a used car.

They say make sure a mechanic checks the car before you buy it because more people are selling cars that are behind on maintenance. One auto shop owner says he sees four out of ten cars whose owners skipped maintenance. He said the biggest issue is people ignoring the "check engine" light, which can slowly cause major damage to a car.

Mechanics also say if the car's engine has been steam cleaned or has a new paint job, then you should definitely have a third party mechanic look at the vehicle.
