SAN ANTONIO -- A San Antonio kindergarten student got a big Christmas present early.

His dad has been deployed in Japan for more than a year. But Monday, father and son and the rest of the family were back together again.

Corporal Salvador Gonzales gave his son what he wished for -- dad in a gift box. The Marine showed up at H.W. Schulze Elementary School Monday and surprised his son Nathaniel. Gonzales is home for Christmas after a year and half in Okinawa, Japan.

"I love being home for the holidays, especially since it's my birthday on Christmas," Corporal Gonzales told us. "I don't get as many presents as the kids, but just seeing them happy makes my day."

Corporal Gonzales had been home and hiding since Saturday, trying not to spoil Monday's surprise.
