A man who police said is a local business owner and has a concealed handgun permit was driving to work when he spotted the attack and pulled over. The man pulled a gun and shot the dog several times.

Police told News 4 WOAI the woman was bit several times on her head, neck, and face. She was taken by EMS to Santa Rosa Hospital. Her condition is not known.

Who owns the dog..well he's a pit bull and he was found in the wes sieee. He's probably used for pit fights so you KNOW no one is going to claim the poor thing.

Nobody is going to find the owner of this dog because many people in this area don't even have a closed fence to keep them in and what's even worse is that I live close to here and I have called the city many times because more than just one pit bull has been seen around here. The sad part is that this was just blocks away from a few elementary schools where most children are chaperoned by the oldest kid so if this happened any sooner the outcome of all of this would have been nightmarish.

the percentages are higher that a pit will be the dog of choice for aggressive owners.

I'll agree it's not always pit-bull's. But what is always consistent is how the animal is raised. I hope they find the owner and fine the hell out of them, I would guarantee that the owner will never come forward which goes to show why the animal had that disposition.

Why is it that only "pits", are in the news? The lady in Europe whose face was ripped off, was by a Lab. My third grade teacher had her nose almost completely torn off by a Cocker Spaniel. I do hope the lady will be okay. Owners of ALL dogs should be required to have liability insurance for their animal(s). The man did what he had to do to assist the lady. The owners need to be fined.

STUPID HUMANS!! When will people learn to take responsibilty for their actions. I feel sorry for this lady, but I feel super sorry for that pit. This would have NEVER happend if the owner would have kept this dog safe from harms way.

It seems in San Antonio they have only one race " pitbull " what about rottweiler ( they are similar to pit bull's tough and make many non dog experts believe they are pit bulls ), doberman and mixed breeds ? She is a Very Lucky lady, thanks to this business owner's brave response ...good job.

Very lucky lady. As for the dog's owner, I hope they find out who (s)he is and enforce a huge stiff fine with jail time and pay this lady's medical bills and for time loss from work, if any.

Hopefully the lady will recover without psychological problems about dogs. Hopefully there was a chip in the dog and the shop keeper did not damage it. Then when the owner of the dog is found, take him before a judge who will convict and think outside the box for a punishment.
