SAN ANTONIO -- The two daughters of a woman who was robbed and murdered last year were in tears Wednesday after the man convicted of the crime was sentenced to 40 years in prison.

Adam Rincon, 22, pleaded guilty to shooting and killing 45-year old Cecilia Tijerina back in July of 2011. Police say Rincon and a second suspect, Rickey Lynn Flowers, drove up alongside Tijerina as she and a friend walked along Rivas Street. According to investigators, Rincon then pointed a gun at the women and demanded money. When Tijerina walked away, police say Rincon shot her twice in the back. Police say Rincon and Flowers then ran over her as they sped off in their vehicle.

Tijerina's two daughters say 40 years in prison was not enough time for the man who they say murdered their mother in cold blood.

“I can’t forgive him, because that was my mom," said Veronica Valenzuela. "And I can’t forgive him, because he took something very special away from me.”

If Rincon's case had gone to trial, he would have faced life without parole. The case against the second suspect, Rickey Lynn Flowers, is still pending.

There is no excuse whatsoever for this cold blooded thief/murderer not getting the death penalty. The voters should remember this case next time the District Attorney is up for re-election. If this low life had murdered a government employee you can bet your last dollar the DA would have settled for nothing less than death. And his accomplice would meet the same fate.

The lack of severe punishment in Bexar County is an injustice.
