SAN ANTONIO - A man is facing charges after police say he illegally fired a weapon in a Southeast Side neighborhood.

Officers were called to the 4200 block of East Southcross around 10:45 p.m. Wednesday after two security guards spotted a man standing on the sidewalk firing a handgun. Police say at least five shots were fired before they ran after him. During the chase, the man with the gun fell and hit his head.

Police suspect that the man had been drinking. He was taken to University Hospital and he is expected to recover.

No one was hit by the gunshots.
