SAN ANTONIO -- A man was burned when gunpowder he was handling exploded Monday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to the 12,000 block of Gable Oaks, on the Far West Side, around 1:45 p.m. Monday.

An officer at the scene said the 69-year-old victim had walked outside with two jars of gunpowder, dumped the powder in one of the jars on the ground, and lit the powder on fire. As he was attempted to to do the same with the gunpowder in the second jar, there was an explosion. The gunpowder ended up blowing onto him and caught fire.

The man was taken by AirLife to San Antonio Military Medical Center. Details about his condition were not available.
