SAN ANTONIO - Police are searching for three men who viciously beat a man to death. Police say the attack was so brutal that one of Juan Romero's heart ventricles was torn by a cracked rib.
The attack happened Monday night outside a Diamond Food Mart at Vance Jackson near West Avenue on the North Side. Police say Romero, 41, was jumped by three men. They say Romero was followed into the store by one man, and when he walked out of the store two other men attacked him.
Police have issue a murder warrant for 40-year-old Larry Castro, who police think is one of the three suspects.
“It appears the victim was trying to get back into the store when a third suspect came out and began to attack him," said Matt Porter from the San Antonio Police Department. "According to the report, it was a vicious attack.”
Romero was taken to University Hospital where he died during surgery.
Investigators believe Romero knew his attackers from an encounter at a nearby pool hall weeks before.
