SAN ANTONIO -- A man who investigators say tried to shoot his soon-to-be ex-wife is now behind bars.
Maurice Dewayne Curtis, 26, is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Deputies were called to a home in East Bexar County Monday. Curtis' wife, who had recently filed for divorce, told officers he shot at her the previous day, hitting her vehicle several times. She said San Antonio Police officers were called to the scene and a warrant was issued for Curtis' arrest.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Curtis' wife then moved to her parents' house to hide from him. She told investigators when she went out to check the mail, he came up behind her, put a gun to her head and pulled the trigger several times. The gun, however, failed to fire, and she began to scream for help. She said when neighbors responded, Curtis then ran towards a car parked about a block away.
Investigators say Curtis' wife had filed several assault charges against him and had obtained previous protective orders against him.
