SAN ANTONIO -- Police arrested a man they say beat and cut his common-law wife following an argument.
The alleged attack happened on Monday, September 3rd. According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Gilberto Flores and his wife had returned home after celebrating Labor Day at a relative's house and got into an argument over paying the rent. The affidavit states Flores went to his pickup truck and got a metal plumbing pipe and went back inside with the pipe and began cutting his wife with a "buck style" knife he had and beating her with the pipe. The woman suffered injuries to her arms, back, legs, and face. One of the blows also knocked out one of her teeth.
After the assault, Flores reportedly ordered his wife to fix him something to eat. Investigators say Flores refused to leave the house, not even to go to work, and refused to allow his wife to leave. When he finally left the house on Wednesday, September 5th, his wife was able to leave and get help from a friend who was driving by.
Flores is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
