SAN ANTONIO -- A local woman says she got a deadly disease from a common cosmetic procedure.

Margaret Dudley believes she contracted hepatitis C from permanent make-up tattooed on her face at a local salon in 2000.

Hep-C kills more people than AIDS, and millions of Americans are dealing with it right now. Clinical trials show there is a safe cure. But "the bottom line" appears to be standing in the way.

News 4's Leslie Bohl talked to Margaret Dudley who says she needs your help to make that cure available to so many people whose lives depend on it.

I know of people that have successfully used herbs and amino acids on HepC. Take a look at the earthclinic website under hepatitis remedies. Hepatitis is in epidemic proportions in China. About 2 billion have it worldwide. Many do not know they even have it and experience no signs. Sadly these screening tests are not free in places like the Philippines, many of the poor have it there, but most don't know it. The conventional drugs used now make many people sick due to side effects. They do say they are working on new drugs and they should be out by 2014. I've read about people that have done trials and have been free of Hep for 3 years now. There is a Doctor in New Mexico, he uses a Natural approach, people from all over the world go to him. From what I've read this disease will be conquered in the next couple years. I do hope that is true, for all those that have it. My fiancee has it too, she will begin the natural approach very soon. Good luck to those that have it.

Mdudley, Thanks for the information and best of luck in your endeavor. For what it’s worth, I signed your petition, though I appreciate that these things probably take a lot of time to work through the pipeline. I know that must not be an easy thing to deal with though. I liked this article: http://news.investors.com/business/022613-645740-google-gilead-bolting-rs-lines-in-market-correction.htm I think it explains things pretty well in plain English. I think the gist of your petition must be what the seventh paragraph of this article is about. Hopefully if there was a near 100% success rate with BMY’s Declatasvir that the market will work this thing out. Joe H.

Joe H. - Gilead is applying for FDA approval of their drug sofosbuvir to be used as an addition to ribavirin and interferon, or with just ribavirin. Quote from article you cited below "However, using ribavirin does not completely eliminate the problem of side effects, as its label has a black box warning of birth defects when used by pregnant women and haemolytic anaemia that can lead to worsening cardiac disease and myocardial infarction. Data from Fusion join those from Positron, with ribavirin in genotype 2 and 3 patients intolerant of, or ineligible or unwilling to take interferon; Neutrino, with interferon and ribavirin in first-line patients with genotype 1, 4, 5 and 6 patients; and Fission, with ribavirin, in first-line treatment of genotype 2 and 3 patients" In the Phase 2 trials with sofosbuvir and Bristol's daclatasvir (when the two drugs were administered together from day one for 24 weeks) the cure rate was 100% for genotypes 1, 2, and 3 without toxic ribavirin. In the 12-week trials for genotpye 1 with these two drugs the cure rate was 93%. Here is a link to the SVR24 results of the Gilead/Bristol trials Reported by Jules Levin | AASLD | Nov 9-13 2012 Boston http://hepc-cured.com/new-clinical-studies-high-rate-of-sustained-virologic-response-with-the-all-oral-combination-of-daclatasvir-plus-sofosbuvir-with-or-without-ribavirin/ Ribavirin is a highly toxic drug with debilitating, long term side effects, so of which can be permanent. The drug combination of sofosobuvir combined with daclatasvir had minimal or no side effects. Quote from Dr. Paul Thuluvath: "We had never, ever imagined—even in our wildest dreams—we could treat hepatitis C so quickly, effectively and without serious side effects. I think the pharmaceutical companies have a moral responsibility to work together and bring it to market instead of following their own vested interests." Gilead investors and the public have a right to know exactly what is going on.

In regards to the story this morning about Margaret Dudley, I don't understand what was reported? Everything being reported conflicts starkly with what WOAI reported this monring. Sofosbuvir IS going forward for marketing, according to everything I've read. Did WOAI do any fact-checking on this story at all? Just to say "the bottom line" is preventing Gilead's marketing of this drug without further explanation is irresponsible at best and illegal at worst. Gilead, its investors and the public deserve better reporting of this story. http://www.hepatitis-central.com/mt/archives/2013/02/sofosbuvir-is-waiting-for-green-light.html Joe H.
