SAN ANTONIO - A local woman organized a letter writing campaign for the victims of the Sandy Hook tragedy.

"I needed to do something. I don't know why," Dalia Aponte told News 4 WOAI.

Dalia wrote to friends on Facebook and organized a day of remembrance for the 26 victims. Several dozen of her social media friends showed up for the day at Stone Oak Elementary Saturday morning.

Amanda Burris says she felt so moved by the lives lost, and wanted to help out anyway she could.

"It's just a good way to show support for them," explaine Burris. "It's just, that's a really hard time. I mean, it's a tragedy that we just need to help."

There was also a balloon send off in the honor of the victims.

The letters written in the shape of hearts will be sent to Connecticut later this week.
