SAN ANTONIO -- Army veteran Cornelius "Drew" Andrews will be representing the United States in the Karaoke World Championship competition in Finland next week.
Andrews won the national karaoke title earlier this month in Cincinnati, Ohio.
"I don't just sing when I get into the crowds, I put on a performance," Andrews said.
Andrews has been singing all of his life, and grew up listening to Luther Vandross and Patti La belle. He'll be singing five songs in Finland next week, including "New York, New York." If Andrews wins, he'll receive a cash prize and a record deal.
"I've always wanted to be an entertainer, and this means everything to me," explained Andrews.
The singer has always had the support of his friends and family, especially his grandmother.
"She's like 'You're a professional, and you should try to go far with it,'" Andrews told us.
A fundraiser will be held for Andrews on Saturday to help with his expenses. The fundraiser will take place at the Highlander Bar & Grill on 5562 Fredericksburg Road starting at 9:00 pm.
