SAN ANTONIO-Firefighters say a lightning strike sparked a big apartment fire on the northwest side early Sunday morning.

The fire started around 4:00 in the morning at the Stoneybrook Apartments on Border Brook.  We're told the fire destroyed sixteen apartments leaving 35 people homeless.

"I saw the flash of lightning and I heard what sounded like a rifle going off.  And then I heard the clp of thunder and about 10 to 20 minutes later we started smelling smoke."  Said James Martinez.

Everyone did make it out safely.

We're told the American Red Cross is helping those families but if you would like to help call the Red Cross at 224-5151.
