LEON VALLEY, TX-- A 92 year old homeowners who doesn't want to be identified says there too much clutter at a neighbor's house and too many cars on the street. She wishes code compliance could do more to fix these issues.

City leaders in Leon Valley are hoping to enforced tougher rules for property code compliance matters.

Under a proposal-fines could range from 25 to two thousand dollars for violations.

The city manager, Manuel Longoria, says he worked in San Antonio where the rules are similar and he thinks it's time for his town to do more to maintain property values and make the area more attractive.

Roland Perez says he thinks the economy has impacted the area--and many people would like to make improvements but can't afford to fix things.

He likes the idea of stricter code compliance to clean up clutter, garbage or delapidated properties. But Perez draws the line at the door. He doesn't think inspectors should be allowed inside a person's home to check for safety violations.

The city manager says if the ordinance is approved as written, inspector would have to get permission from homeowners to check inside.

The city is still working out the details and Longoria says this plan isn't like the rules enforced by Homeowners Associations.

Longoria believes the area just needs to be more attractive to maintain property values, protect citizens from safety hazards, and possibly attract new home buyers.

Citizens still have an opportunity to voice their opinions. There will be a second community meeting regarding the proposal for a property code maintenance ordinance next Tuesday evening, February 8th, at city hall.
