SAN ANTONIO - A state senator from Wichita Falls has filed a bill to prohibit schools from tracking students using radio frequency identification technology, or RFID.

State Senator Craig Estes' bill would ban the use of RFID in public schools, which some families call an intrusion on their privacy and religious freedom.

Last week a judge refused to grant an injunction to the family of Andrea Hernandez, a Northside School District student who is opposed to wearing an RFID tracking badge.

The Hernandez family has now filed an appeal. Under the current decision, if Andrea does not wear an ID badge she will have to go to another school.

The district has offered to take the tracking chip out of the badge, but the family still refuses to have Andrea wear it.

@taurus, why do you think this is a "liberal politician" or liberal issue? Senator Estes is a Republican who describes himself as a conservative. Personally I think the RFID tags are a good idea, I wear one at work. There are, however, both liberals and conservatives opposed to it.

Everyone has an opinion and advice, but this legislator wants to force school districts to trim their fat central offices (full of compadres, sidekicks) to stretch the money, and not use the students as ginea pigs. I mean we are humans, not beasts. Next thing is: School district wants to build dorms on campus to insure all students are present every day and get more money from the feds (most of it to pay for the dorms). To sraspurs...both bibles, together with talmud, kuran, etc. are works of humans, related to their religions, cults or beliefs. They are not like owners manuals to go through life. Mostly fiction.

she just wants to skip school so she can play with the girl friend and or the boy friend and not get caught. then when it is time to graduate from high school she will say it was the teachers or her parents fault of not checking to make sure she went to class.

Just another politician trying to make a name for himself. He just wants to be remembered as the one who filed the bill and maybe even had it passed. He is just among the enormous pool of idiot liberal politicians that we have today trying to pass all kinds of legislation.
