FLORESVILLE -- An anonymous angel sparked a chain of generosity in Floresville. Walmart Customer Service Manager Vicki Gannaway said a woman came in last week and wanted to pay off a layaway for someone else. She said she had just returned from serving in Afghanistan and wanted to help someone whose last name started with "W" and whose list had a lot of toys. The woman said her last name also started with the letter "W."
She ended up paying off Amanda Wright's $282 layaway list, full of toys for her three little girls.
"We had budgeted the money and I told my husband and he was in total disbelief. He said, 'go pay it forward and do something nice for those who don't have anything!'"
So Wright took her three-year-old Reagan and $200 back to the store.
"She (Reagan) told them, 'we're here to pay for toys for kids that don't have any!' That lady immediately broke down in tears and was like, 'I'll do anything I can to pay it forward,'" Wright said.
Her money paid off layaways for two other families.
"Only last year, we lived paycheck to paycheck. I remember counting pennies out my door to pay for gas to get to and from work. This has been the first year we've been blessed enough to step forward and had a little extra to do something," she said.
Wright said she chose families whose last name started with "C" to "keep Christ in Christmas" and she wrote a letter to the editor to the local paper to thank the anonymous woman who sparked all the giving.
"I've been in retail a very long time and I've never experienced this type of giving and sharing," Gannaway said. "It's amazing! Amazing."
