SAN ANTONIO - The Bexar County Sheriff's Office and San Antonio Police are using new technology for fighting crime in our area.
The Automated Fingerprint Id System known to officers as AFIS helped catch the three men who killed Diana Barrera's husband. Manual Barrera was shot and killed outside a VFW hall back in 2008 during a robbery. Bexar County Sheriff's Office helped SAPD catch the suspects with a latent print found on the suspects van.
Lucy Adame-Clark said, “We scanned it into our AFIS database and you get a possible candidate list. Back in the day what an investigator had to do they had to do a manual search with evidence.”
All three suspects were arrested within a month. Just this year San Antonio Police went online with AFIS. Officers believe this will help them solve more cases before they go cold.
