KERRVILLE, Texas -- The Kerrville Public Utility Board is warning residents about an electric bill phone scam.
Officials with the KPUB say a customer received a call from someone who claimed to be from KPUB in Utah. The caller said because the customer had an unusually high electric bill, the customer's meter needed to be checked. The customer was told the check would result in a $180.00 charge and to go out and purchase a prepaid MoneyPak card and call back with the card information.
A customer who receives a suspicious phone call, should contact the Kerrville Police Department if you live in the city limits or the Kerr County Sheriff's Department if you live in the county. Customers can also contact the KPUB Customer Service Department at 830-257-3050.
