SAN ANTONIO -- Filmmakers are pulling out the smoke and mirrors to transform San Antonio into Nashville circa 1970.
The transformation is for a biopic about the 'King of Soul' James Brown.
We stopped by the set Thursday at the Salmon Peak Recording Studio near Interstate 10 and Boerne Stage Road. It's been remodeled to look like the studio Brown used to record hits like "Sex Machine" and "Super Bad" with a young bass player named Bootsy Collins.
Actor Michael Chambers plays Brown. He says the film captures Browns relationships with younger musicians and the role he played in the civil rights movement.
"Everything that was happening on the outside of the music studio carried into the studio," Chambers said. He added, "He knew that he had to be a symbol of hope and of love for a lot of people. So those songs were very important."
The movie is called "I Got Soul." A release date has not been set.
