Is the easy-bake oven sexist?

a 13-year-old girl started an online petition asking Hasbro to make the toy ovens in gender-neutral colors and feature boys on the box.

What I remember is that the easy bake oven heater element was a one hundred watt bulb, and if you put Barbie inside and left her there for an hour or so her hair would melt and stick to her face which deformed into something that kind of like looked like a monkey, and then it started to smell really bad. I do not believe it was sexist, because we would sometimes put G. I. Joe in the oven, well, just his arms, and they would melt into spider shapes if you had that creepy crawler set of tins ready to pour his liquid appendages into, but what really interested me as a child were the hot wheels, because they were about the size of a shotgun shell and if you removed the carriage and put a golf ball at the end of the track it became interesting to the babysitter, who caught us fooling around in the fort. She said we were not of the church. At her funeral, I prayed for her eternal soul and also asked Santa to bring me the big collection of lego blocks that no one ever bought because it was too expensive.

@charlie50: Didn't those treats you baked yourself taste absolutely wonderful? Self esteem is a wonderful thing, and these bake-easy ovens were a great way to easily make that happen. Back when...peer pressure was bad, but not like today. Bullying was bad, but not to the extent it is today. There wasn't as much emphasis on "stuff" like there is today, and it was much easier to find yourself and recover self-esteem.

Maybe I need to clarify something......both cousins were several years younger than me, and their desire to play "Barbie" with me could have come out of a sort of "Idol worship", but I don't think so. I've actually got a picture of these two the year we gave them boxing gloves for Christmas and they "went at it" with each other......during the time that they played Barbie with me. Not a gay gene or thing about it......kids having fun, growing & learning, and loving each other, without the societal "whatevers" that we didn't even know about then, but that are so prevalent today. And, the girls in the family played a whole lot of cowboys and Indians with the boys, and other "masculine" themed activities & games. It's part of growing up, so stop trying to label it or denigrate it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our society has gone freakin' nuts!!! I'm 59 years old, and when I was young and playing with Barbie dolls, I had two male cousins that LOVED to play (Barbie) dolls with me. Both grew into big strapping men with families they support and love (one with a Downs child), and NEVER, ever showed any leanings toward being less than male while growing up, or now. Both actually do quite a bit of cooking, too, as do most of the men in both sides of my family. Probably comes from that "settler heritage" when men had to care for themselves before bringing their families to the frontier, or share the care and cooking along the way. Back then, most men could cook well enough to take care of themselves and their families should the need arise, and NOBODY considered it an effiminate or "gay" trait!!! Most of the great chefs out there today aren't "effiminate or gay", so why does ANYONE presume to put labels on this?!?!?!?!??! My dad has always been a better cook than my mother, because he had to learn out of necessity, and she hates cooking. On the other side of the coin...what's wrong with being gay? An easy-bake oven isn't going to "turn a boy child gay". I understand the opposition of many with regard to "gay". I am a Christian, and I feel that judgment will come from God, and should not come from us. Some of the most wonderful, honest, loving, best friend men I've EVER known have been gay men, who will give you their last penny or the last shirt off of their back. I will NEVER believe that the God that I love and worship will turn his back on individuals like this for their "sin against his word", yet forgive a serial killer or pedophile/child murder first, who have also sinned against his word & commandments. Nah....that's not the truth of God's word. I know that I have a couple of friends on here that will disagree with me, but we'll just have to agree to disagree on this subject. The honesty and love and complete giving from the hearts of those that I'm talk

I remember these things from when I was a kid .And no i dont remember what color it was (not that it mattered to me at the time) . But what I do remember was that we all had a great time eating the little treats that came out of it . I say dont change a thing maybe it will give some kid the ambition to become a chef at some point in there life .

How about giving little Gavyn time to grow up before his 13 year old sister turns him into a fruit?
