SAN ANTONIO -- A report released Tuesday by the Texas Attorney General's office details problems in the former manager of the Alamo by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.

The Attorney General's office began its investigation in June of 2010. The Attorney General's office accuses the DRT of misappropriation of state funds for the organization's own benefit, and allowing its own organizational prerogatives to interfere with its duty to act in the best interests of the state of Texas and the Alamo.

San Antonio State Senator Leticia Van De Putte said for several years she's been hearing about mismanagement at the Alamo.

Senator Van De Putte authored a bill last legislative session allowing for custody of the Alamo to be taken away from the The Daughters of the Republic of Texas and transferred to the Texas General Land Office.

"It's just every sad that it had to come to this, but the Alamo is secure," Senator Van De Putte said. She went on to say the management structure is sound and secure. "That's what's most important now, we can get beyond this point and turn a new page of structure at the Alamo," she added.

Late Tuesday night, the president of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Karen R. Thompson, released a statement saying, "DRT is shocked at the outrageously inaccurate conclusions within the report."

Thompson went on to say the OAG report contained no required changes for the DRT to be compliant with state law.

"Our general counsel and staff are currently reviewing the 38-page report and a detailed formal response from DRT is forthcoming," concluded Thompson.

Thompson also noted that since 2010, OAG investigators denied five requests to meet with DRT leadership and staff.

if its happening at this level of our society, just imagine what is happening at the global stage. I am curious to know what our government thinks is in our "Best Interest." could it be the last oil fields in the middle east before its all gone?

This is a bunch of horse $h*t! "walk-away" Leticia is a power monger. It's not enough for these jerks to shamefully wrest control of the Alamo from DRT, now they must ruin their image publicly? I'm calling B$. Someone please stand up for the daughters. You all watch, the Alamo will be gone, or turned into a hotel by 2016, with its new 'stewards'.
