SAN ANTONIO -- The team behind development at Brooks City Base on Tuesday announced a new way to attract investors, and it involves green cards.
Brooks City Base has been designated an EB-5 Regional Center, a federal program that provides a stream-lined path to residency for foreign investors. But there's a catch. The investors must commit to a $1 million investment at Brooks. In return, they and their family are granted legal residency.
City Councilwoman Leticia Ozuna says Houston has had a lot of success with the program. Now, it's San Antonio's turn.
"It's a great opportunity for us. I can only see blue skies for Brooks ahead," said Ozuna.
Since the military left the base, the land has become key in revitalizing the South Side. A new hospital and luxury apartments recently opened to support all the businesses moving to the base. Developers hope the EB-5 designation will bring more jobs to the South Side by attracting new business.
