SAN ANTONIO – An isolated area under a bridge on the Northeast side turned into a dumping ground for an abused dog Saturday. Witnesses say a man driving a black truck was seen dumping a seriously injured pit bull at Judson and Lookout Roads.

“She was very sad,” said Rosie Garza, President of Love for Paws Rescue. “She  was very scared.”

Garza and staff with Love for Paws found the dog Monday. They are now calling the 2-year-old pit bull “Blue”.

“She was dehydrated. She had not eaten,” Garza said.

Blue has an injured right leg. There’s a large open sore on just below her shoulder, and rescuers say the dog's blood-soaked cast was infested with maggots when they found her.

“The thought in my mind was that her leg was going to rot off.”

Love for Paws volunteers say they could tell from the bandages wrapped around Blue’s leg, she was recently treated at Emergency Pet Clinic. So they volunteers took the dog back there to be seen.

Garza says the veterinarian contacted the dog's owner, who refused to pick up her injured animal.

“The owner said that she had handed the dog over to someone else, and was supposed to taker her to animal control.”

Instead, Blue ended up under an old bridge. Her new caretakers are not sure whether her injured leg will have to be removed.

Garza wants the person responsible for dumping the dog to face criminal charges.

“Justice for Blue would be for the person responsible for leaving her to face justice.”

A second dog was also dumped at the same time. That dog has not been located.

Right now Animal Care Services is investigating leads. Anyone with information about this case of animal cruelty is being asked to report it to A.C.S. by calling 311.

You can check to see when Blue will be ready for adoption on the Love for Paws Rescue website: www.loveforpawsrescue.com.

jesidi - you are as bad as the people who dumped Blue. You could have taken the dog to vet to be put down or called a rescue group for help. To leave an injured animal to slowly die is cruel beyond words. I hope when you are in an accident the other drivers are to busy to stop and help you.

Sad story, last friday I reported a dog that appeared to have been stabbed, I requested that someone come out to pick it up. I called 311 3 times my last call was at 2:20pm, I was told that to have a staff member move the dog to the curb incase it were to die then ACS would contact solid waste. Every breath the dog took he would bleed. The dog died Friday afternoon, come Monday he was still there, I called again. I was then told that the employees go into clean their trucks by 2pm there was no way anyone would've made a run to pick up the wounded animal. I was very upset being that we found the dog @ 9am and he suffered all day until he died that afternoon. Come Tuesday the dog was still on grounds, I then called again and they finally came to pick the dog up. Poor thing not only was injured severly with a puncture wound but he suffered all day until his death. Why do we have ACS if they will not help these animals? This animal could've been saved!

I think both the POS woman and the BIGGER POS man who left this poor girl like this needs to have the same thing done to them. Let them rot- selfish, evil human beings.

Uh as if ACS cares about the animals they are charged to rescue and care for? They murdered my friend's dog within two hours of receiving her and then lied to them about it. And it's not like she was aggressive- her favorite thing was to keel over for tummy rubs! And it's not like they were full and couldn't take her- we checked the next day and there were tons of crates open! ACS is bullfrog!

The article clearly said that the owner was called but she refused to pick the dog up as she had handed her over to another individual to take to the shelter? They are saying that anyone with info should contact the ACS. Well the POS owner who gave the dog to someone else to handle either needs to provide that infom or she needs to be fined or arrested for what happened. Read the line from the story: “Justice for Blue would be for the person responsible for leaving her to face justice.” The woman IS ultimately responsible for her being left under that bridge. Fine her heavily so she never feels the need to have pets again

mikeOx - I agree with everything you said. I love animals more than I do humans. That's just the way it is.

Dogs are only the way they are because of humans! SO if ur 3 year old is beating up kids at his daycare is it the childs fault?? NO its there dumb parents fault tollerating that behavior. I have a pug and everyday he suprises me on how smart he is. Dogs are only as smart as you want them to be. And ya that dog barking all night pisses me off but i get more mad when i wake up and see the owner of that dog.

carpahius, yes i've always wondered why the owners won't do anything.good point.

jta unfortunately,i'm a light sleeper.i also have the pleasure of getting to hear city/commercial vehicles backing up too :-(

carpathius - 4/22/2010 3:51 PM
wittsend - I still have to agree with Mike, I have had all of those things happen and yes they've pissed me off, but that's the owners fault, not the dogs. The owner could bring the dog inside. Therefore I am again pissed with the human that wouldnt take care of the dog.
