SAN ANTONIO -- Hundreds of volunteers pitched in Sunday to help San Antonio families become first time homeowners .

Members of the First Presbyterian Church worked on the framing for five Habitat for Humanity houses.

Working alongside them were some of the families who will get to move into the houses when they’re finished.

Adam Martinez, a volunteer and recipient, said he and his kids were eager to move into their new home.

“It's going to be awesome,” he said. “My kids are going to have their own house, I'm going to have our own house, we're just very happy to have one.”

Habitat for Humanity is always looking for volunteers. For more information about the organization, call (210) 223-5203.

Some are just destined to be renters. Our culture that promots home-ownership for everyone is what caused the housing debacle where people were " given " houses at low rates who could not afford a real rate, never mind the taxes. This seems like a good idea until reality hits. I hope they succeed, but we've seen how ' HOPE ' has worked lately.
