SAN ANTONIO -- A homeowner was shot in the face during a gunfight with two burglars Wednesday morning.
The shooting happened in the 8200 block of Quail Creek near Loop 410 and Perrin Beitel on the North Side. According to police, 27-year-old Andrew Wharmby woke up around 5:00 a.m. Wednesday when he heard some noise coming from his garage. Investigators say Wharmby grabbed a shotgun just as two men entered his home. Police said one of the men was armed with an AR-15 assault rifle, and there was a gunfight in the kitchen. Wharmby suffered a gunshot wound to the face, but police say he was able to fire several shots at the suspects, hitting both of them.
One of the suspects was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released. The second suspect, 24-year-old Adrian Miller, ran out of the home to a waiting car. Officials told News 4 WOAI Miller suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was driven to North East Baptist Hospital by his girlfriend. He was then taken by AirLife to San Antonio Military Medical Center and is said to be in critical but stable condition. Miller's girlfriend was taken into custody.
Wharmby was also transported to SAMMC. He is expected to recover.
