SAN ANTONIO -- Two men were arrested after they led police on a high-speed chase that lasted for almost an hour Tuesday night.

Deputies said the chase started after a driver nearly hit a patrol car in the City of Windcrest in Northeast Bexar County. The suspects sped off with officers in pursuit, at times reaching close to 80 miles an hour.

Once the two suspects reached Guadalupe County, deputies were there waiting for them with spike strips. The spikes punctured two of the car's tires. The suspect driving the car drove into a field and both of the men then tried to run off.

"They ended up in someone's backyard," explained Sgt. Richard Esqueda of the Bexar County Sheriff's Department. "Luckily it was early enough in the evening, they were able to see everything. Otherwise, they might have scared them out of bed."

Deputies said the men may have tried to get away because one of them was wanted on an outstanding warrant from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
