SAN ANTONIO -- A McCollum High School dance teacher with Harlandale ISD has been on paid administrative leave since July 27, and parents still have many questions.
"I think it's over excessive and I think it's ridiculous I think they need to make a decision now, " said parent Toni Ramirez.
Teacher Cassandra Rios' absence centers around a picture of the teacher and her dance team students. The photo was taken more than a year ago on the River Walk at Dick's Last Resort restaurant.
Someone tagged Rios in a Facebook photo that some people consider inappropriate.
"It's a personnel matter, but everything came from the facebook photo, all the issues that came up stem from that, " said Leslie Garza, a spokesperson for Harlandale ISD.
Garza told News 4 WOAI the school district hired a certified dance teacher last month to take over Rios' class. "At this point, hiring somebody to get the girls ready for competition was the best thing we could have done, " said Garza.
Parent Toni Ramirez says it doesn't make sense to be paying two people for one job. "That money could really be used elsewhere, and I think she should be back in the classroom, " added Ramirez.
Ramirez has been a big supporter of the dance teacher, along with other parents and students. Back in October several dozen people rallied their support for the teacher during a school board meeting.
Harlandale ISD can't say when this matter may be resolved.
