WASHINGTON -- Monday, we told you about federal employees skipping out on their taxes

A new IRS report shows they owe a total of more than $3.5 billion dollars in back taxes. As our national correspondent Kristine Frazao reports, it comes at a time when federal agencies are slashing budgets, and there's a growing push to punish the delinquents.

I watched the IRS shut down a small business individually owned by a little old man for most of his life because he was delinquent on paying his payroll tax liability. I was in the IRS office the day he was begging them for time and help because the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT owed his business almost 10 times his delinquency and was almost 6 months delinquent in paying him. If the government would have paid their bill, he could have cleared up his delinquency and saved his business. He wasn't even asking for relief from late fees and interest. He was asking either for more time due to the Feds debt to him, or payment on their account to clear his problem. They closed him down and auctioned off his equipment to cover his delinquency. I never learned whether or not he EVER received payment of the Federal debt owed him.
