Handcuffed man steals police cruiser

WHITE SETTLEMENT, Texas (CNN) - Police in North Texas are searching for a criminal who stole a police cruiser while handcuffed.

Officers arrested Darren Porter on Friday on suspicion of burglary charges. They handcuffed him and put him in the backseat of their cruiser, then continued their investigation. But he managed to roll down a back window, then got in the driver's seat and took off on a wild ride.

The cruiser's dash cam captured some of the wild ride. At one point, Porter hit a puddle and went spinning out of control. The vehicle was found abandoned in Fort Worth.

Investigators say several police rifles were missing.

I'm having a hard time understanding the training, or lack thereof, of the cops in this state recently. We've got a HS student handcuffed that shoots himself in the back of the head sitting in the cruiser. Guess the arresting cops didn't do a very good job of patting him down for weapons. Now, you've got this dude making off with the police cruiser while handcuffed.........in front, and not cuffed with his hands behind him. No wonder the crime rate is increasing!! Incompetent cops don't put much fear into anybody, especially the criminal element!!!
