SAN ANTONIO -- We all know what it's like to wait for a loved one at the airport. But few may be more anxious than Barry Birdy.
"I'm telling ya, we've been waiting for this day for so long," Barry says.
Bearing posters, necklaces, balloons and stuffed dolls, he was one of dozens that waited at the San Antonio International Airport to welcome home 7-year old Lonise and 11-year old Christelle.
The two girls smiled coyly at the cheering crowd. Lonise buried her head in her new father's shoulders, as Christelle was embraced by her new grandparents and friends.
David and Laura Birdy, who already adopted a 17-year old orphan from Haiti, were in the middle of bringing home the two girls when the earthquake hit in January. Getting them out has been a nightmare.
"Everyday the rules changed," describes David Birdy. "I was told 'congrats, you finally made it to the Prime Minister's list,' then a week later, I went and they said, 'you finally made it, you're on the next Prime Minister's list'."
It took the Birdys six weeks to bring the girls home. The first thing they will do together as a family: eat dinner. David says the biggest wonder for his new daughters, who have lived through starvation, is all the food - like milk and juice - at the supermarket.
