SAN ANTONIO -- All weekend long we got several calls from viewers upset that their cars were towed while they were inside a gun show at the San Antonio Events Center located on the West Side.  They say they then had to wait in long lines just to get their cars back at the Bexar Towing Company.

“When we parked there at first there was no signs visible, I guess because of the trucks that were parked there, when we came out we saw signs but the signs were not right in front of the parking spots,” said Eric McDonald, whose car was towed.

McDonald said an hour later and after paying $300, he got his car. But he doesn't think it was fair, and he's not alone.

David Moreno came across problems too.  He said that the towing signs were bent, which made it impossible to see the signs in a packed parking lot.  Moreno stated there was even someone telling them it was all right to park in that lot near the events center.

“There was a guy on a little buggy. He was directing people to go ahead and go in here beyond the signs that had the towing," said Moreno.

The people in line outside Bexar Towing said they heard from police about towing concerns around the parking lots surrounding the events center.

According to Miranda Miller, “Apparently they (police) come out every Sunday, every other Sunday because of the same scenario where a lot of upset people are waiting hours to get their cars out, and ours was towed illegally.”

We tried speaking to someone at Bexar Towing to get their side, but with locked metal fencing surrounding the building, we didn't have any luck. We were, however, asked to leave.

A voice heard over their outdoor intercom told us, “We're not allowed to make any comments. You need to leave the property. We have SAPD on the way.”

Two people whose cars were towed said the company agreed they should not have been towed, so they didn't have to pay a fine.

That is what they get for being cheap. I was at the gun show and paid $3 to park in the lot.

This is funny, "A voice heard out from an outdoor intercom, we will not make any comments, an SAPD is on their way" something to that effect. Very creepy, sounds like the movie WIZARD OF OZ. File a complaint with the BBB and find out where at the city you can make a complaint about Bexar Towing. If I'm not mistaken, I think this company is a outside contractor for Bexar county. Expose these loser's.

Milos, I do not work for Bexar Towing nor have I ever worked for them. i have been employed in the towing and recovery industry for a number of years. I do not understand why you are saying that I am employed by them. If I were employed by them and your car was parked their, and there was proper signage to not park there I would have towed it and every car that was present though. At 25% commission somebody ate ribeyes for the super bowl festivities. Getting back on point, the Better Business Bureau has nothing to do with this situation. It is the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation that you need to call. You state that there were no signs when you parked, but they "appeared after your car was towed. Then go back an take photos of the scene where the dirt was recently disturbed to prove your point. File a complaint with the TDLR and have your case heard at a Justice of the Peace Court. If a member of the security team employed by SAXET directed you to park there they should be responsible for the impound and related fees. As far as these people being scam artists, I have to disagree. If the lot where you parked did not want people parking there it is their right to have the vehicles towed away. Companies that provide Private Property Impounds provide this service. I have towed hundreds of vehicles that were parked illegally next to nightclubs over the years. The owners of these properties got fed up with having to clean their property of beer bottles, beer cans, used condoms, and fast food wrappers and trash on a daily basis, and decided that enough was enough. If you have a valid complaint in your situation do not just whine, cry and complain. Forge through with the process and take action.

Hey "goodmichael"- you must work for those ripoff artist! I've seen the employees of Bexar Towing trolling the internet posting responses to complaints about them and your message looks like all the rest I've found today. I was there at the gun show. My wife and I were waved into a parking area by a guy on a green golf cart. There were no "no parking" signs in that area and no "tow away" signage either. We came out 40 min later and the car had been towed by these scam artists. I would complain to the Better Business Bureau but the rating for Bexar Towing is a solid "F" for the BBB so I don't think that they really care who or why they piss someone off. Take a look online at some complaints about them and you will see the real picture of who and what they are. The employees seem to enjoy any confrontation they can get into and don't mind cussing at women for fun. Well...what goes around comes around.

Hey goodmichael- you must work for the ripoff towing company! I know that you sham artists troll the internet looking for negative stories about your crappy little company- I've seen your response posts on other sites. You people are a fraud! I was there. There was a guy on a green golf cart who waived us to the spots(there were about 25 other cars in the same area. There was no "no parking" signs in that area or on the parking spots. I guess that Bexar Towing really has alot going for them with their "F" rating with the Better Business Bureau!

The city of San Antonio does not "get a cut" from cars that are towed as part of private property removals, or PPI's (Private Property Impounds) If you feel tyhat you car was illegally towed you should file a complaint with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. You may request a hearing in Justice of the Peace court as well. You should also contact SAXET, the promoter of the gun show. I personally do not attend this show due to the parking situation. If you park somewhere you are not supposed to park you will get impounded and have to pay the price. The facility who owns the property does not have to post signs at every space. They just need to have them posted at the entryways to the property. If you believe that the signs were put in after you arrived, go back and take pictures, and document your case. Bexar Towing has had a change of ownership since the story was posted on the bus station fiasco. It is not the same ownership group running the show now. Again the City of San Antonio has nothing to do with this debacle. Towing firms are regulated by the State of Texas. If the city gets involved in licensing these people you will pay 500.00 next time as it will only be another TAX.
