SAN ANTONIO -- All weekend long we got several calls from viewers upset that their cars were towed while they were inside a gun show at the San Antonio Events Center located on the West Side. They say they then had to wait in long lines just to get their cars back at the Bexar Towing Company.
“When we parked there at first there was no signs visible, I guess because of the trucks that were parked there, when we came out we saw signs but the signs were not right in front of the parking spots,” said Eric McDonald, whose car was towed.
McDonald said an hour later and after paying $300, he got his car. But he doesn't think it was fair, and he's not alone.
David Moreno came across problems too. He said that the towing signs were bent, which made it impossible to see the signs in a packed parking lot. Moreno stated there was even someone telling them it was all right to park in that lot near the events center.
“There was a guy on a little buggy. He was directing people to go ahead and go in here beyond the signs that had the towing," said Moreno.
The people in line outside Bexar Towing said they heard from police about towing concerns around the parking lots surrounding the events center.
According to Miranda Miller, “Apparently they (police) come out every Sunday, every other Sunday because of the same scenario where a lot of upset people are waiting hours to get their cars out, and ours was towed illegally.”
We tried speaking to someone at Bexar Towing to get their side, but with locked metal fencing surrounding the building, we didn't have any luck. We were, however, asked to leave.
A voice heard over their outdoor intercom told us, “We're not allowed to make any comments. You need to leave the property. We have SAPD on the way.”
Two people whose cars were towed said the company agreed they should not have been towed, so they didn't have to pay a fine.
