SAN ANTONIO - A pornographic giveaway by an atheist group. Even more shocking is what a group is asking people on the UTSA campus to surrender in exchange for porn.
It happened on the UTSA campus up on the Northwest Side. The 'porn exchange' drew student crowds, but many were there in opposition to the exchange.
When we showed up, the crowd had thinned, but there was still plenty of students exchanging ideas.
Their signs appealed to the most basic instincts -- offering a trade of pornography for a holy text. Members of the Atheists Agenda call it an even exchange.
Carlos Morales told us, "It's smut for smut. It's what they call smut for what is actually smut -- which is their religious text."
These provocative claims are meant to draw a lot of discussion.
Counter demonstrations grew in front of the exchange booth. Christians had their own table set up to offer their own perspective.
"I think the Bible is a guide," explained Keisha Davis. "It's something that supposed to help you throughout your life."
The atheist group contends pornography is consentual.
"Unlike religious texts which condone lieing and using violence against different individuals which is the exact opposite of anything peaceful," said Morales.
Some defenders of religion like Hunter Vick questioned why pornography had to be used to grab people's attention.
"Especially from an organization that believes in free thinking or logic," said Vick. "Thought they could have come up with a better way to do that."
UTSA says it's an issue of free speech.
David Gabler of UTSA Public Affairs told us, "We were familiar with what they were going to do and of course what we're going to look at is are they following the rules."
