SAN ANTONIO -- After News 4 WOAI took both the concerns of neighbors and video of cars skidding out of control to city leaders, we can report Cherry Ridge Road on the city's northwest side now is a safer route.
City workers spent the weekend adding new material to the 3200 block of Cherry Ridge Road. Workers made the road rougher in texture -- essentially making it safer for drivers who take a problematic curve on that road.
On New Year's Eve, we first brought you the concerns of residents, including Theresa Britts, who said the curve was a potential death trap when it rained and the road got slick. Britts said she had seen drivers roll their cars off the road and onto private properties; another neighbor said he had seen drivers seriously hurt in wrecks along Cherry Ridge.
News 4 WOAI contacted the San Antonio Public Works Department and officials then dispatched the crews to tweak the road material this weekend.
"It did have to take WOAI coming out for the city to take action, but we're just definitely glad (the fixes) have happened," Britts said.
Drivers are still urged to use common sense and slow down while taking the curve, especially if driving conditions are unfavorable.
