SAN ANTONIO -- A public viewing was held Saturday for 31-year-old Roxanna Demers and her four children who died after a car crash two weeks ago. The viewing was held from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. at Castillo Funeral Home located on North General McMullen Drive.
The life of the mother and four kids was tragically cut short when Roxanna’s husband and father of her children, 35-year-old Larry Demers, lost control of their vehicle and crashed into a bulldozer. The accident happened in a construction zone on Medina Base Road in June.
Larry Demers has been charged with intoxication manslaughter. He's accused of drinking then driving and crashing their vehicle on the city's Southwest side. Roxanna and two of her boys died during the early morning hours following the accident. Another son passed away at the hospital later that day, and another son was taken off of life support days later.
The family has scrambled to come up with the money to hold the funeral services for five loved ones.
The latest in this series of tragedies for this family has been the death of Roxanna’s grandmother. She died earlier in the week due to illness. She was not involved in the car accident.
Although Larry Demers is considered by investigators to be responsible for the accident, his brother in-law said they love and care for him and do not hold any ill feelings towards him. Roxanna's brother also said it's hard to cope with the blame the community is placing on Demers who is grieving the loss of his wife and children.
Larry Demers faces charges of intoxication manslaughter.
