SAN ANTONIO – Friends of a woman who died in a car accident last month are holding a fundraiser for her family.

Lorraine Tamez was a 42-year-old single mother who waited tables at north side burger joint Good Time Charlie’s to put food on the table for her four children.

“She talked about them all the time,” coworker Genevieve Truscott says. “I knew everything about her kids before I even met them."

It’s been one month since Tamez’s family and friends woke up to the horrible news: she’d been killed in an accident when her car hit a utility pole on Braun Road near FM 1560.

Authorities believe she had been involved in another accident just before that crash.

Now, Tamez’s work family is banding together to organize a fundraiser for her four children.

"We're going to make sure it all goes directly to the kids' hands or the caretakers of the kids' hands,” her friend Gregory Pittman says.

This Sunday, July 29, the Night Rocker club at 605 San Pedro will be packed with nearly a dozen bands and several comedians from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m.

They have one goal: supporting the family of the woman who gave so much of herself to this community.

"I think she'd be honored, speechless, very happy,” Truscott says. “Can't imagine. I wish she could know. I hope she does know, I guess."
