SAN ANTONIO- The free ride is over for Texans using the new toll road that connects San Antonio to Austin at 85-miles an hour. A one way trip will cost an average of $12.
But now that you have to pay there are questions on weather or not everyone will have to. That has a group of protestors boycotting the road.
Terri Hall, spokesperson for Texans for Uniting for Reform and Freedom said the Spanish based toll operator; Cintra will collect tolls for the next 50 years, but only for Texans.
“TEXDOT has no way to enforce the collection of tolls from out of state drivers or from those out of the country since SH130 is completely electronic tolling,” explained Hall.
A TEXDOT spokesperson said all drivers will have to pay a toll bill and TEXDOT will be able to send a bill to out of state and out of country drivers since they have an agreement to exchange information with other states and countries.
