SAN ANTONIO -- Since last September local DWI instructor Jeneen Phillips has been on a mission to keep people from drinking and driving.

She's the founder of RUI or Rides Under the Influence. RUI is a free ride service for you and your car.

RUI is expecting to be busy this labor day weekend. Since the program started in September of 2011, RUI volunteers have picked up 463 people.

"That's 463 people that didn't get a DWI, didn't go to jail, didn't kill someone, didn't wreck their car because they had a safe alternative," said Phillips.

Phillips tells News 4 WOAI the program is in need of more volunteers drivers in order to keep going.

Since it's Labor Day weekend volunteers will be out Friday, Saturday and on Sunday from 10:00 pm until 2:00 am.

Usually RUI only operates on Fridays and Saturdays.

To request a free ride or to volunteer with RUI you can call them at 210-999-0200.

Really Mexican people always have warts and moles on their face. I have one in the back of my ear, and I have to get my wife to pluck out the hairs that grow out of it, because those hairs attract spiders, and there is nothing worse than having to swat some eight legged insect in the middle of the night when you are trying to dream about the future of America.

When they pick up these trashy people from the honkytonks, beer joints, and the cathouses, they need to drive them straight over to the jailhouse, and have them locked up. Drinking beer and whiskey is a sin and an abomination against God and Jesus. It doesn't matter if they are driving or not, it is a sin---S-I-N! Giving these people free rides home just encourages them to sin against our Lord and Savior. Lock them up!

While I applaud the idea of the cause and glad to hear 400+ people benifited from the service, sometimes I'm just too drunk to go pick anyone else up to drink with. OK I joke but the term volunteer implies that my gas expexse will not be reimbursed...have you seen those prices??? It's hardly not worth even going out to drink anymore. Plus if someone hurls on my interior then I go down for 1st degree murder.

there is no way I'd volunteer to pick up a drunk stranger. It's a noble cause but seems to have some serious security lapses just waiting to be exploited.
