SAN ANTONIO – A north side woman has a former mayor to thank for saving her dog.
Suzy Holleron came home after Monday’s severe storms to discover her dog Chogogo was so scared, she jumped the fence.
"Oh, I thought she was gone,” Holleron says. “In a storm like that – you don't know who's going to pick her up, you don't know if she's been hit. I just had an angel over me yesterday."
The angel who saved Holleron’s beloved dog was none other than former mayor Howard Peak.
He says he found Chogogo two miles from home and clocked her running nearly 30 miles an hour before he managed to scoop her up to safety.
“I would hope that anybody would do that, but especially dog people,” Peak says. “We've got two beagles that we've rescued."
Peak stopped by Tuesday to check on Chogogo and see her safe and dry.
From one dog lover to another, Holleron gave Peak and his beagles a fruit basket to say thank you.
