Unless an agreement is reached and approved by Congress by the start of New Year's Day, more than $500 billion in 2013 tax increases will begin to take effect and $109 billion will be carved from defense and domestic programs.

What I want to know is on that TMZ show, there is a hamburger and what appears to be a carton of McDonald's fries in the background, and they are slowly sliding off to the left. Is this product placement? I have googled it and found nada.

@cdcolo, since you capitalized HOUSE and not Senate, I tend to assume that you throw most blame toward the House. The House has sent numerous bills to the Senate that Harry Reid will not allow heard on the Senate floor. Obama TELLS Congress what he wants, nothing less, and not to bother him with anything until they're ready to kowtow to his demands. You're right in that we need to start cleaning house, but it needs to begin at the top and work down.

First, I don't know that the President can be blamed when the Administration cannot write bills. Bills must begin in the HOUSE, ratified by the Senate and Signed by the President. Now, the way to get everyone working again and on the right track would be for citizens to demand that salaries and benefits of Congress be directly tied to either the job they do or the benefits they provide to the people and/or the country. Congress gets better health care, retirement and over all better benefits for LIFE than what they vote for the rest of us. Until we can get this changed, we should demand that this happens and if it doesn't, we vote each congress person out of office continuously until they get it done!

The president is using the media to put blame on the GOP but frankly they are all to blame....A decision on what should have been done should have happened before the election not after. They all knew this was coming up for a vote at the end of the year. They must think we are stupid with all this drama. The GOP has offered up 2 or 3 bills and had sent it to the senate for a vote but Reid just put it in a file. I don't want to have someone getting unemployment forever. Should have a 2 year limit and if you can't find something within that time then you are not trying hard enough. THE GOVERMENT NEEDS TO STOP SPENDING OUR HARD EARNED MONEY WHENEVER AND TO WHOEVER. Just like SA, Tx with this Pre-K for the poor and illegals. Now trying to push this to the state. STOP SPENDING!!!
