SCHERTZ, Texas - A Schertz Elementary School teacher is under investigation, accused of covering a talkative student's mouth with tape.
Danny Kelley told News 4 WOAI he and his wife were called to his 7-year old daughter's school for a conference, Tuesday morning. Kelley says the principal told them it was a couple of his daughter's classmates who first reported the mouth-taping incident.
"If she would have told me on the day that it happened, I probably would have went up there and talked to him myself," said Kelley.
The alleged incident happened before Christmas break, according to Kelley. His daughter claims she was too afraid to speak-up about the humiliating incident.
"The number one thing she remembers is after he took the tape off of her mouth, and told her to be quiet, all the kids laughed in the class, and humiliated her," said Kelley.
The upset father says taping the child's mouth could have triggered a health emergency.
"She has asthma, she has a very bad problem breathing through her nasal passage," said Kelley. "So she always breathes through her mouth."
A spokeswoman From Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD confirms the teacher has been placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the on-going investigation.
Kelley says the School District should not take this matter lightly.
"There has to be something done to the teacher," said Kelley. "Some kind of act like that should not be done, especially to a first grader."
