SAN ANTONIO -- Firefighters had to battle an apartment fire on the North Side Friday morning.

Fire crews were called to the Rayo del Sol Apartments in the 7200 block of Blanco Road around 11:20 a.m. Friday. A News 4 San Antonio crew was told a vacant apartment unit caught fire. At one point, the San Antonio Fire Department's active fires webpage showed 28 units had been dispatched to the scene.

A neighbor said the people who lived there moved out three or four days ago. A worker at a Lexus dealership nearby said he didn't hear any fire alarms and ran over and started banging on doors to try to get people out safely. News 4 was told the apartments do have smoke alarms and that most of the units in the building are vacant.

No injures were reported.
