AUSTIN, Texas -- The Texas Supreme Court recently approved the adoption of divorce forms making it easier for some couples to get a divorce.
Only couples without children or property can use the forms without the help of an attorney.
"It will be a big deal for those people who now have a place to go, who don't feel completely hopeless and stuck in a situation they just don't know how to get out of, " said attorney Lamont Jefferson.
Jefferson said some people will stay married for years, but live separate lives just because they can't afford to get a divorce.
The divorce form is free, but you may have to pay a court-filing fee.
Not everyone is in favor of the do-it-yourself divorce form. Many family lawyers worry it could lead to complicated legal problems for couples down the road.
Despite the opposition the Texas Supreme Court is moving forward with the form.
The court is currently listening to public comment, and could make some minor changes to the form in February.
