SAN ANTONIO -- A baby girl undergoes surgery for appendicitis at Christus Santa Rosa Children's Hospital but her parents claim that while in its care she suffered burn wounds on her face. Now, the baby's parents want answers as to how it could have happened.

Eight-week old Nina Juliet Aycock was being treated at the hospital. Her parents tell us she's recovering fine from the appendicitis surgery but are fearful that her face may be scarred and her vision may be impaired from first and second degree burns across her face.

Trey Aycock is baby Nina’s father. While visiting San Antonio for the holidays, he and wife rushed their daughter to the hospital for stomach problems on Dec. 19. The next day, the baby underwent appendicitis surgery. However, when the baby's breathing tube was removed days later, her father was shocked.

He says, “It just looked like a burn, a bright-red burn, like it was scorched."

Aycock believes one of the nurses may have touched an acidic wipe, and then touched the baby's face. But after begging for answers from the hospital he's come up empty handed.

“So I was cursing, and [a hospital official] told me if I persisted with this behavior and the cursing, that it's going to make the staff and nurses weary of taking care of my daughter," Trey Aycock says.

Trey called police. And officers have looked into the parent's concerns.

A hospital spokesperson released this statement:

"Christus Santa Rosa Children's Hospital is aware of the concerns being expressed by the parents ... The hospital is in the process of fully investigating these concerns at this time. The hospital has and will continue to cooperate with local authorities."

But Trey is looking for more, “What I want is, is I want specialist, a plastic surgeon, and an ophthalmologist of my choosing, and at Santa Rosa’s expense, to come in to look at her face."

He says while he has some serious concerns about his daughter's wellbeing here at Santa Rosa, he and his wife will not move her to another hospital. He says his daughter was injured here and he wants them to make it better.
