KERRVILLE – Police say Francisco Sanchez was intoxicated when he allowed two young children to ride in his truck’s flatbed Halloween night.
The children were sitting in lawn chairs which were secured according to investigators with Kerrville Police Department. Detectives say Sanchez put the children in further danger when he began fist-fighting his girlfriend who was sitting in the truck’s cab with a 7-month-old baby.
“It’s illegal. You can not ride in the back of a pickup,” said Kerrville Police Sergeant Mary Krebs. According to Texas law anyone under 18-years-old is restricted from riding in an open bed pickup. There are exceptions during events like a parade.
“It’s lucky that they didn’t hurt anybody, or get hurt themselves,” Sgt. Krebs said.
Sanchez was booked on Kerr County Jail on Driving While Intoxicated with Minors Under 15 and assault charges. Anyone caught driving with minors on the flatbed of a pickup faces a $200 fine.
