DunoNuthin, you are comparing apples to oranges. The report is saying that running at 45 with the windows down will have the same gas milage as going 45 with the windows up. Of course your milage won't be the same at 70 with the windows down as you would at 45 with the windows down. I don't doubt the report, since running the AC does have a pull on the engine affecting gas milage, which is probably negated by turning off the AC and running with the windows down, no matter what the speed. As long as all things are equal.

I never run the AC in my car and always have the windows down to some degree, somewhere between cracked a couple inches to down fully. You can't make a blanket statement such as "finally, driving with the windows open does not affect fuel economy" without some clarification. Surely CR didn't issue such a generic statement; it wouldn't surprise me if WOAI somehow slaughtered the official report. There is no way you can convince me that running at 45 with the windows fully down will get me the same gas milage as running 70 with the windows fully down. It's a drag.

How about talking about the cost of groceries; I think they have doubled in the last 12-15 months.
