KERRVILLE, Texas -- Three drug busts at a Hill Country high school in one day. So far two 15-year-old girls and a 16-year-old boy are under arrest. And some parents are wondering what's going on at that campus.
It was at Tivy High School in Kerrville where police busted those teens for having illegal drugs on campus. It's supposed to be a drug-free school zone. And police say the problems at Tivy all started Wednesday when a 15-year-old girl complained she was feeling high and sleepy.
Kerrville Police Officer Paul Gonzales says, “The school teacher noticed a juvenile to be acting ill -- acting out of the ordinary.”
That girl went to see the school nurse and police say she had marijuana and unauthorized anti-anxiety pills called
Xanax.
Parents are shocked to find out another 16-year-old boy was busted an hour later. The school got a Crime-Stoppers tip he had pot, Xanax and
hydrocodone pain killers.
Concerned father James Grier says, “I think that the issue needs to be taken care of. They need to crack down on things like that."
Even more tips led officers to a third teen - a 15-year-old girl who had prescription pills in her backpack. Officers believe she was selling them to other students.
The school district spokesperson gave News 4 WOAI conflicting information about the campus drug investigation. Right now she's only confirming it was a teenage boy who started school this week that was found here with prescription drugs.
Police say that boy and the two girls are each facing some serious drug charges. Kerrville ISD kicked the 16-year-old off campus and is placing him in alternative school.
James Grier says more needs to be done, “I would not want my children in there, people trying to sell drugs to my children and what not. So, it definitely needs to be taken care of."
For now police tell News 4 WOAI all three teens have been taken to juvenile detention as this ongoing drug investigation continues.
